POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the University Auditor, the Associate University Auditor – Information Technology (IT) is a critically important member of the University’s Internal Audit Services (IAS) team, accountable to clients within the University for objective and fair assessment and advice related to information systems (IS) and information technology (IT) controls. The Associate University Auditor – IT contributes to the timely accomplishment of the annual audit plan by assessing information technology risks; planning and conducting audits of technical entities and new systems to assess data integrity and security as well as compliance with related legal, regulatory, and policy requirements; developing findings and recommendations to communicate to management; and serving as a consultant on controls pertinent to IS and IT risks. The Associate University Auditor – IT also implements, operates, and provides the technical support for Internal Audit Services’ computer-assisted audit techniques and programs, and serves as the department's computing coordinator and system administrator.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Plan and conduct audits of information systems, platforms, and related operating procedures against established standards for efficiency, accuracy, and security, including:
a. identifying audit objectives, goals, and scope;
b. preparing audit programs, questionnaires, and time budgets;
c. making arrangements for conducting the audit with appropriate levels of management;
d. performing fieldwork through inquiry, observation, inspection, corroboration, re-performance, and application of automated audit tools;
e. documenting and analyzing relevant information;
f. identifying deficiencies and opportunities for improving outcomes and elements of control;
g. communicating conclusions, findings, and recommendations for improvements, orally and in writing, to managers and end users with varying degrees of technological understanding and experience;
h. assessing the appropriateness of managers’ action plans to address audit findings; and
i. monitoring and reporting on the progress of managers’ follow-up actions.
2. Work with CIS management and system user management on new application development, determining and recommending improvements in current standards and implementation of system changes, and providing opinions and advice on system control environments.
3. Assess compliance with, and advise management on technology controls related to, University policies and laws and regulations pertinent to the collection, storage, use, and transmission of information.
4. Assess information system and information technology risks with CIS managers and system administrators to develop the annual IT audit plan in coordination with the University Auditor.
5. Provide requested training and consultation services related to information control in coordination with relevant managers.
6. Maintain all computer equipment, systems, and website content for IAS; program and run data and analytic reports for IAS audits; and train other IAS staff in computer-assisted audit tools and techniques.
7. Keep abreast of current developments in IT, and maintain ongoing and improving technical competence and auditing skills.
8. Participate in non-IT audits, inquiries, and investigations as needed; supervise the work of any junior staff or interns assigned to IT audits; and share in the performance of tasks related to IAS office administration.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor's degree or higher, preferably in analytical fields of study such as computer science, accounting, mathematics, or engineering.
· Minimum of three years of relevant work experience in auditing, computing services, and/or higher education; experience with Brown University computing systems and ACL programming or similar data extraction and analysis software preferred.
· Excellent communication skills, customer service orientation, audit sense, and integrity.
· CISA certification preferred upon hire; required within two years of hire.
