ISACA New England - Academic Scholarship Program

Scholarship Overview

The Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) of New England is offering academic scholarships of $1,500 to two qualified undergraduate students for the 2012/ 2013 academic year. The period for applying for the scholarship ends March 31, 2012. Scholarships will be awarded in June 2012.
Participants are to write an essay on the topic defined below. Submissions will be judged by information technology (IT) and audit professionals who are Board Members of the New England ISACA Chapter Scholarship Review Committee. Essays will be evaluated based on relevance, clarity of thought, demonstrated understanding of the subject matter, organization, originality, spelling, punctuation, and grammar. The winners will have their essays published in an edition of the ISACA New England newsletter and website, and will be asked to attend the ISACA NE Annual Meeting in June 2012, in order to present the scholarship and meet the membership.

Scholarship Requirements

Current full-time undergraduate students who are studying information systems, accounting, computer science or other business related degrees at an accredited college or university in any of the following states are invited to apply:

  • Maine
  • Massachusetts
  • New Hampshire
  • Rhode Island
  • Vermont

* Students who are legal residents of any of the five states listed above, studying outside of New England, are also invited to apply.


Essay Submission Question: What are the greatest information security risks today and how are those risks mitigated, accepted, avoided and/or transferred?

  • The essay should be double-spaced and must include between 900 and 1000 words, excluding names, headers, and end-notes.
  • Only one essay per author will be considered.
  • The essay should be submitted in a standard word processing format such as MS Word or WordPerfect. When citing sources, essays must follow either the MLA or APA format and the essay must contain a reference page.
  • During the period that the essay is under consideration, the author asserts that it has not been published elsewhere and is not being considered for publication elsewhere.
  • The essay must be submitted and received no later than March 31, 2012. Any entries received after this date will not be considered.
  • Authors will be notified by April 30, 2012 of decisions on publication and award winners.
  • Essay submissions must include the completed Academic Scholarship Application, Student Certification and Verification of Student Standing (see below).
  • Submissions not meeting the requirements defined above will be disqualified from the competition.

Following the close of the enrollment period, members of the ISACA New England Scholarship Review Committee will review each applicant’s entry. The $1,500 individual scholarships will be awarded to the top performing candidates based on the quality of their essay submissions and the students' current academic standing. Authors will be notified by April 30, 2012 of the decision. The recipients will be asked to attend the ISACA NE Annual Meeting in June 2012, in order to present the scholarship and meet the membership.
